Red  Deer
Red Deer are native to Asia Minor, North Africa and Europe, and are the fourth-largest deer species behind Moose, Elk and Sambar deer. They have a brown coat, that has a red hue that becomes more prominent in summer months. Males develop neck "ruff" during autumn, persisting into winter. Adult male stags are distinguished by the "crown" or "cup" of points at the tops of both beams. Horns grow from the burr up and back in a circular pattern. Five to six points per side is common, but can be in excess of 20 per side. Red deer stand between 41 and 48 inches at the shoulder. Males weigh from 230 to 750 lbs, averaging 600 lbs in the U.S.

HUNTING COSTS

Prices are averages taken from researching multiple exotic game ranches in Texas in 2016.

The hunter must research individual ranches for the actual total cost. The ranch may have a special on a specie because they are overstocked; some with damaged antlers/horns or; a specie must be removed from the ranch because they are not compatible with other species. The size of the trophy will change the price of the animal. Some ranches will charge both a hunt fee and a kill fee (replacement fee) so get your questions asked before you book a hunt. Some ranches will provide all handling, gutting, skinning, shipping prep or delivery to the taxidermy as part of the hunt "package." Some will charge for each item separately.

Meals and lodging may be provided as part of the package, or it will be an add on. Some will provide free lodging IF you take an animal. Again, check with the ranch BEFORE you book. If you fly to a ranch some will meet you at the airport as part of the package, some will charge you to pick you up. Ranches make their profit from repeat customers so, as a rule, they will go out of their way to please their hunters and try their utmost to get the animal the hunter is looking for. However, as in all industries, there will be the rare exceptions, but don't let one bad experience reflect on all ranches or outfitters.

Once you have decided on a ranch, read every single word on their web site. THEN CALL THEM before you book. Hope this help you toward your trophy goal!
