ELAND
The common Eland, also known as the Southern Eland, is a savannah and plains antelope found in East and Southern Africa. An adult male is around 5' tall at the shoulder and can weigh up to 2077 pounds with an average of 1,100–1,300 pounds. It is the second largest antelope in the world, being slightly smaller on average than the Giant Eland. Both sexes have horns with a steady spiral ridge. The horns of males are thicker and shorter than those of females. Males' horns are 17"–26" long and females' are 20"–27" long, and have a tighter spiral. The common Eland is the slowest antelope, with a peak speed of 25 miles per hour that tires them quickly.

HUNTING COSTS

Prices are averages taken from researching multiple exotic game ranches in Texas in 2016.

The hunter must research individual ranches for the actual total cost. The ranch may have a special on a specie because they are overstocked; some with damaged antlers/horns or; a specie must be removed from the ranch because they are not compatible with other species. The size of the trophy will change the price of the animal. Some ranches will charge both a hunt fee and a kill fee (replacement fee) so get your questions asked before you book a hunt. Some ranches will provide all handling, gutting, skinning, shipping prep or delivery to the taxidermy as part of the hunt "package." Some will charge for each item separately.

Meals and lodging may be provided as part of the package, or it will be an add on. Some will provide free lodging IF you take an animal. Again, check with the ranch BEFORE you book. If you fly to a ranch some will meet you at the airport as part of the package, some will charge you to pick you up. Ranches make their profit from repeat customers so, as a rule, they will go out of their way to please their hunters and try their utmost to get the animal the hunter is looking for. However, as in all industries, there will be the rare exceptions, but don't let one bad experience reflect on all ranches or outfitters.

Once you have decided on a ranch, read every single word on their web site. THEN CALL THEM before you book. Hope this help you toward your trophy goal!
