Axis  Deer
The Axis Deer is native to the Indian subcontinent. A moderately sized deer, the male reaches nearly 35" and females 28" at the shoulder. Males weigh 66 to 165 lbs. Exceptionally large males can weigh up to 240 lbs. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful of deer, with a bright reddish coat marked with rows of white spots that persist throughout life. The abdomen, rump, throat, insides of legs, ears and tail are all white. The antlers are nearly 3.3 feet long. Either of the antlers has three lines on it. The brow tine is roughly perpendicular to the beam. A vocal animal, the Axis Deer will give out bellows and barks when alarmed.

HUNTING COSTS

Prices are averages taken from researching multiple exotic game ranches in Texas in 2016.

The hunter must research individual ranches for the actual total cost. The ranch may have a special on a specie because they are overstocked; some with damaged antlers/horns or; a specie must be removed from the ranch because they are not compatible with other species. The size of the trophy will change the price of the animal. Some ranches will charge both a hunt fee and a kill fee (replacement fee) so get your questions asked before you book a hunt. Some ranches will provide all handling, gutting, skinning, shipping prep or delivery to the taxidermy as part of the hunt "package." Some will charge for each item separately.

Meals and lodging may be provided as part of the package, or it will be an add on. Some will provide free lodging IF you take an animal. Again, check with the ranch BEFORE you book. If you fly to a ranch some will meet you at the airport as part of the package, some will charge you to pick you up. Ranches make their profit from repeat customers so, as a rule, they will go out of their way to please their hunters and try their utmost to get the animal the hunter is looking for. However, as in all industries, there will be the rare exceptions, but don't let one bad experience reflect on all ranches or outfitters.

Once you have decided on a ranch, read every single word on their web site. THEN CALL THEM before you book. Hope this help you toward your trophy goal!
